Home/Brushing & flossing

Home care guide

A healthy smile starts at home.

A few minutes a day, done the right way, protects your teeth and gums between visits.

Twice a day

Brushing

Use a soft-bristle, ADA-approved brush and fluoride toothpaste

Angle the brush 45° toward your gums

Use small, gentle circles on every surface

Clean the inside of front teeth with the tip

Brush your tongue to freshen breath

Always brush before bed

Once a day

Flossing

Take 12 to 16 inches of floss

Wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving 2 inches

Slide gently between teeth

Curve into a “C” around each tooth and under the gumline

Move up and down along each side

Try a floss holder if regular floss is tricky

After meals

Rinsing & extras

Rinse with water after brushing and after meals

Ask us before using over-the-counter rinses

Electric toothbrushes remove plaque easily

Interdental brushes and water flossers can help

Eat balanced meals and limit snacking

Your partner in prevention

Great home care, plus regular checkups.

Even perfect brushing can't remove hardened tartar. A professional cleaning twice a year keeps your smile its healthiest.
