“You should smile more.”
If you keep hearing that phrase but are hesitant to flash your pearly whites because, say, they’re not so pearly and not so white, veneers can help. If you have chipped, broken or discolored teeth, veneers may be the answer to reclaiming your smile. Check out our smile gallery and our page on veneers, to see what dental transformations are possible.
In a survey of the most attractive aspects of a person, 56% rated a person’s smile as a key component of attraction. Likewise, stained teeth were a huge turn-off, when it came to finding a mate. A big smile connotes a friendly personality, which is important in business as well as social life.
Veneers are an investment in the power of your smile.
Porcelain veneers are fitted to fit over the front sides of your teeth, masking chips, discoloration and other flaws. They are made to match the color and shape of your own teeth and can fix unsightly gaps between the front teeth as well. Veneers may or may not require anesthesia and little of the original tooth structure is lost when they are placed, which are two key upsides to veneers. However, if you chew ice or bite your nails, you’ll need to nix the habit before having veneers. Extra care and consideration should be taken if you grind your teeth.
Composite bonding is an alternative to porcelain veneers. A plastic material is shaped and bonded to the tooth. Ask your dentist what type of veneer is best for you. If you only need minor cosmetic enhancements, composite bonding may be better for you.
Of course, proper dental care and hygiene is key to making veneers work for you. Brushing twice daily for 2 minutes, flossing daily, and wearing a bite guard at night is a great way to protect the veneers. Avoid eating very hard foods like nuts, or cracking shells with the front veneers.
